DESCRIPTION:This African Heritage Month\, Key Frames presents KIKI\, a 2016 documentary film that explores the lives of LGBTQ+ youth-of-colour in New York City’s underground Ballroom scene. SUMMARY:Make Day! Play with Clay
DESCRIPTION:Let’s play with clay! Bringing back a crowd-favourite\, we will kick off March Break with a clay-centric Make Day. Using your hands or clay tools\, this is a chance to explore air dry clay and shape it into…. a dog\, tiny house\, pizza or more\, before painting your unique creations! Anything goes – use your imagination and get creative!    \n\n\n\nWork independently\, or with your small group\, this program is great for children ages 5+ with an adult. Drop-in\, included with the price of admission. \n\n\n\nThis Make Day falls on Nova Scotia march break and therefore may be busier than usual. Please be patient with our staff and volunteers as we work to accommodate everyone.  \n\n\n\nAbout the program: \n\n\n\nMake Day is a studio program for emerging artists of all ages! Designed as an intergenerational art workshop\, these sessions lead participants in a short art lesson that introduces an art technique or process\, resulting in a fun art piece you can take home. A great way to get connected\, inspired\, and creative with friends or family. Each month’s activity is inspired by works in an exhibition currently on view.

DESCRIPTION:Join media arts professor David Clark and curator and Queer activist Robin Metcalfe as they guide us through the art and practice of Séamus Gallagher.  \n\n\n\nThis conversation will address Gallagher’s varied use of image making techniques\, the role of drag and camp in their work\, and representations of natural and artificial worlds amid the climate crisis. Clark and Metcalfe will speak to their experiences working with Gallagher while sharing their perspectives on the exhibition OH BABY \n\n\n\nASL interpretation services will be provided.  \n\n\n\n\nRegistration is Required – Save Your Seat\n\n\n\n\nAbout Creative Minds:\n\n\n\nThe Creative Minds series hosts community leaders and creatives to respond to current events\, exhibitions on view\, or artworks in the Gallery. Through conversation\, music\, poetry\, or movement\, these events aim to provoke new ideas\, explore the unexpected and create more understanding for everyone involved. \n\n\n\nAbout the Presenters:\n\n\n\nDavid Clark is media artist\, writer\, filmmaker\, and sound artist who teaches at NSCAD University in Halifax.  \n\n\n\nRobin Metcalfe  is a writer\, curator\, Queer cultural activist and community historian of Acadian and Newfoundland heritage. He served as Director/Curator of Saint Mary’s University Art Gallery 2004-2020. Since the mid 1970s\, he has published journalism\, cultural criticism\, short fiction and poetry in over 65 periodicals and 15 anthologies. In 2000 he was awarded the Evelyn Richardson Prize for Non-Fiction for the book Studio Rally: Art & Craft of Nova Scotia (Goose Lane\, 1999) and he was shortlisted for a National Magazine Award in 2004.
